Fighting Hunger
Our community of faith is committed to fighting hunger. In 2017 we dedicated 500 volunteer hours and donated over 19 thousand pounds of food. We have a strong partnership with CUMAC, a mission we also support monetarily. Additionally, our pastor is a member of the Palisades District Anti-Poverty Taskforce. We are continually looking for effective ways to partner with other organizations to fight hunger and eradicate poverty. Our commitment is cemented in our theology on social justice and our understanding of Scripture. Jesus’ preference to side with the poor, not only in his teaching, but also in manner; is our role model and guide as we make it our priority to make disciples who transform the world.
Passion for All of Creation: We Love Our Pets, and Yours Too!
Our community is passionate about caring for God’s creation. We take seriously God’s commandment in Genesis 1:26- “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” We interpret dominion as caring, protecting, guarding, and safekeeping. Therefore, we try our best to be responsible with our resources; we recycle, repurpose, reuse, and donate. We are also fond of our pets who are welcome and participate in worship every Sunday of the year. We have a special blessing of the animals in the Fall around the celebration of St. Francis. During that time we also partner with local animal rescue organizations through collection of food items, supplies, and funds.
