From Pastor’s Desk
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
The resurrection is the center of our faith, it is the foundation of our Christian experience, and it is the goal towards which our lives move. The resurrection is of first importance to us, not because it is a nice ending to the story of Jesus, but because it is the beginning of our story, a story in which our faith can triumph over death (and the devastating effects of Covid 19) just as did the faith of Jesus.
The Good News of Easter in not merely that Jesus rose again. It is also the Good News of our resurrection, or at least the potential for our resurrection. Easter is not just about Jesus coming back to life. It is about us coming to life as well.
As Christians we are urged over and over again to trust in and accept the reality of the resurrection and to make it a part of our lives through faith in Christ who rose from the grave to the eternal life.
We are a people who are called to believe in the power and the love that it shows — to believe in the power and love of God to bring goodness out of evil; life out of death; and hope out of despair.
As Christians we are promised that when we trust and believe in this way, that our lives will be blest, and that we will be a blessing to others. We are promised that what we believe will make a difference to us. And indeed it does. God can bring a new life out of the old. God can bring good out of evil, love out of hate, joy out of fear, and hope out of despair. This is what we believe; and what we believe makes a difference.
If you really “got it” then live it. Live your new life for Christ! So don’t be bewildered or frightened. But go and tell the others. Tell them not only that He is alive. But that He made you alive too!
There will be special opportunities to celebrate and proclaim the resurrection of our Lord and the new life of all believers at Totowa UMC during Holy Week and on Easter Sunday. These include:
* Holy Thursday Service (online only): April 1st at 6:30 PM
* Good Friday Service (in-person and online): April 2nd at 12 Noon
* Easter Service (in-person and online): April 4th at 10AM
We hope you can join us on Easter Sunday in celebrating Christ’s resurrection. Please invite the whole family, your friends and neighbors, too.
In the joy of Christ,
