From Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“Batter Up!” Next fall the umpire will say one last time. The batter (I hope is a Mets) will swing and score the winning run of the 2021 world series. That run will conclude a “Championship Season.” But that is next fall. Now we are at the beginning of the baseball season. To have a “Championship Season” the athletes must start with the discipline of Spring Training.
You and I are not NY Mets or Yankees. We are Christians. Our Championship Season begins each year with the discipline of Lent which is our Spring Training. Our regular ball game begins with the Easter and continues throughout the Easter Season. As Christian athletes we must keep in shape and play well every day in order to win the “Championship” in the kingdom of God.
Here are some questions we can ask if we are willing to be on the winning side:
AM I putting Jesus first in every area of my life or am I still in charge?
AM I putting a priority on fellowship and worship with fellow Christian believers?
AM I praying and asking the Lord to help me to be available to witness for God each day?
AM I seeking to love rather than hate or judge others?
AM I willing to confess my sins and truly seek the Lord’s forgiveness?
AM I willing to completely let go of my selfish control to surrender and let God take over?
These are just a few of the many reflective questions that you and I can ask and answer as we continue our regular season of 2021.
The Apostle Paul put it this way. “Athletes deny themselves all sorts of things. They do this to win a crown that is imperishable” (I Corinthians 9:25).
Go Christians! (And go Mets!)
God loves you and so do I,
Your Brother and Pastor
