Our church helped co-host the moms and dads breakfast, in celebration of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, that Wonder Years Educational Center, the preschool housed at the premises of TUMC, hosts every year.
On May 10, close to 75 moms, aunts, grandmothers, and caretakers gathered in Cheyney Hall where the children graced them with sweet songs. The TUMC Outreach team, lead by Ruth MacManamey and formed by Chuck Willer, Nancy Mecca, and Mark Sciacca, prepared trays of donated pastries and set up the room to welcome the crowd.
Similarly, on June 14, a booming crowd of fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and caretakers, enjoyed the children’s presentation and later shared a delicious breakfast of donuts, fruit, and coffee. The outreach team was hands-on preparing three large bowls of fruit salad, delivering the goodies, and setting up the space to w
elcome the Wonder Years dads.
This effort is helping us achieve our goal of reaching out to our closest neighbors, and it was due in part to your prayers, and donations. Thank you to all who shipped in one way or another. We would like to express special thanks to Laura Purdy for her generous sponsorship of $100 that helped with the cost of most of the expenses for Donuts with Dad.
Rosangela Iacovo, Director of Wonder Years, expressed gratitude for the support, and parents were equally appreciative for the gesture of friendship.
All agreed that this is something we must do more often!
